First Co-Creation Workshop in Lisbon pilot site

Date: 15 December 2021

Location: Lisbon, Portugal

The first co-creation workshop for the Lisbon pilot of AI4PublicPolicy project, organised by Lisboa E-Nova took place at the City of Lisbon Foundation, on December 15th, from 09:30 to 12:30.

The first co-creation workshop for the Lisbon pilot of the AI4PublicPolicy project took place in Room B at the City of Lisbon Foundation, from 09:30 to 12:30, on the 15th of December 2021.

In total, 15 participants attended the workshop and all of them had strong field-work experience in buildings’ energy efficiency issues and intrinsic motivation to actively discuss how existing and new data sets and computational algorithms can help to design new User Stories under the pilot’s theme. The on-site team included 6 Lisboa E-Nova members: 4 people from the technical team (Diana Henriques, Sara Freitas, Eduardo Silva and Maria Rodrigues) and 2 people from the communication team (Marta Peixinho and João Gameiro). The technical team was responsible for moderating the process.

The co-creation workshop consisted of two parts:

  • The first part of the session began with an introduction of the overall workshop agenda and AI4PublicPolicy concept and goals, along with a round of introductions by the participants, followed by a “Human bingo” ice breaker.
  • The second part of the workshop was a co-creative session recurring to an adapted “World Caffe”. For this exercise, each group was given a matrix with columns “What”, “Why”, “How” and “Who” to be filled in using post-it notes. The participants engaged in a free but moderated discussion, where Group 1 addressed the “What” concerning the topic “Increase the energy efficiency in residential and services buildings” and Group 2 addressed the “What” in the topic “Achieving 100MW of solar photovoltaics in 2030”.
  • In the third part of the session, the participants formed one single group to dive deep into the practical side of the co-created “paths”, and how to integrate facts and data into possible out-of-the-box solutions. The “Thinking Hats” method was employed to provide direction to the argumentation, with the participants gathering in smaller groups according to roles: the emotional (red), the creative (green), the optimistic (yellow), the devil’s lawyer (brown), and the factual (white).
  • The fourth and last part of the workshop included a round of feedback gathering from the participants, as well as highlights and main take-outs from the discussions.

Overall, the participants expressed great satisfaction with the type of dynamics employed and the fruitful discussions and mentioned the opportunity to address new partnerships. The second workshop of the Lisbon pilot is planned for 16 February 2022.

More information regarding the results and the user stories generated through the cocreation workshops will be published on D2.9 “Plan and report on co-creation activities V2” soon.
